Elizabethtown
What we owe to ourselves
is not jumping up and down
to an unfamiliar beat
in some gym or club;
what we owe to ourselves
is to forget that tomorrow is a Monday
and dance in the rain.
We have no need for grey walls and plastic gloves,
extra safety from human touch –
lest we feel pain.
What we must all have
is at least three stars in each pocket,
three tiny suns
lighting the one-of-a-kind paths of our skin,
warming our hands every time they feel dark
and need a place to hide.
